The ANIMAL OD is back by popular demand. The Animal is an accurate recreation of an overdriven 1968 “Plexi”. The ANIMAL OD has the grunt and midrange bark of the old classic rock n roll amps but cleans up extremely well by backing off of your guitar’s volume control. The controls are very simple and no matter where they are set they give you a great overdrive sound.
For many rock and fusion guitarists, the EL34-powered Plexi stack remains the gold standard of loud. These amps weren’t particularly high-gain (not by today’s standards), but they delivered glorious overdrive when pushed. They also didn’t have master volume controls, so when you cranked them you were overdriving both the preamp and output tubes, the combination being largely responsible for their coveted harmonic complexity. The J. Rockett Audio Designs Animal OD captures this legendary Plexi tone and puts it right underfoot.
